3 Tips to Improve Your Productivity

Contrary to popular belief, habits CAN change overnight!

Before adding three must-haves in my life, my days were unstructured, goals were not met, and I felt guilty about wasting time at the end of the day. This is likely due to my type-A personality.

For reference, some common traits of a type-A personality include:

  • Ambitious
  • Driven
  • Goal-oriented
  • Organized

I pride myself on having a type-A personality because I am constantly thinking about work and how to support my clients.

However, some of my lifestyle habits were not helping me so I chose to make three small changes to include in my everyday routine.

The small changes I made in my life that made a huge impact were:

  1. Making my bed every morning

This is one of the most common productivity tips you will hear but it really does work. If making your bed is the first thing you do in the morning, you’ve already accomplished something. You will have a sense of accomplishment and you will be less tempted to crawl back into it.

Another bonus — there’s no better feeling than getting into a made bed after a long day!

2. Taking a cold shower after exercising each day.

Usually, this would be in the morning to give myself a fresh start — literally and figuratively. But more so, it trains your brain into doing something you don’t particularly want to, and that in itself heightens your discipline, focus and attention.

It exercises your mental stamina.

3. At the end of each day, write down three things to accomplish for the next day in the order of priority.

Everyday, I start off knowing what I need to do. Unlike many other Type A’s I don’t believe in planning months ahead of time, because in my industry, opportunities spring up last minute so it’s important to take them on. However, I still like to plan ahead a bit, so I know I’m not done for the workday until those three things are complete. This helps me prioritize what needs my attention that day.

These changes have made my days feel more accomplished and fulfilled! Making changes to your lifestyle does not need to be scary or intimidating. Focus on one small change a day and soon the changes will be part of your normal routine.
